Your home layout and desired air distribution will affect the sizing and placement of your ducting, so as long as the ductwork meets the requirements of both the new unit and the air-conditioned space it is servicing then it is acceptable to use the old ducting (if it is still in good condition).

There are a few factors worth considering when installing a Daikin air conditioner’s outdoor unit.
Installing the outdoor unit in a safe, dry and well-ventilated area is advised. Making sure your outdoor unit is clear of trees or a dusty area (like a driveway) can further help you keep your air conditioner’s filters clean and less likely to get dirty or blocked.
Keeping the unit out of extended direct sunlight is also beneficial, as exposure to hours of the harsh Australian sun will mean your unit has to work much harder to combat its own internal temperature.
Finally, keep in mind also the location of your bedrooms and of course your neighbours, as the outdoor unit does make some noise when operating.

If a Daikin product is installed with less pipe work than the minimum requirement specified by Daikin engineers, noise and/or vibration issues may occur and the system may not perform at an optimum level.

The first consideration for placing any wall-mounted indoor unit is establishing where best the air can be distributed evenly throughout your chosen room. Wall-mounted units are also best positioned high on a wall that has suitable access for drainage. Aside from these more technical aspects, some common sense factors that are also important include making sure the indoor unit is easily accessible, so that you can clean the filter and unit regularly and make any manual adjustments (such as repositioning the louvers) easily.
Daikin Ceiling Mounted Cassettes, which are available with a number of Daikin’s air conditioning systems, provide four-way air flow, meaning that they distribute air evenly in four different directions at any given time.
As such, a ceiling cassette should be installed in the centre of the room to provide the best possible distribution of conditioned air.
With their discreet design, the central location of a cassette is barely noticeable in sitting flat with the ceiling.
It is not recommended to install Ceiling Cassettes in corners or close to walls, unless this has been given specific design consideration by your Daikin Specialist Dealer.
The outdoor unit of a split system air conditioner requires adequate clearance in order to function correctly. Its performance depends upon efficient outdoor heat dispersal, so covering the unit will effect this.
Allowing at least 1 metre of clear space on each side of the air conditioner is a good rule of thumb to utilise.
If you would like to cover your outdoor unit, your Daikin Specialist Dealer can advise you on whether an ‘air deflector kit’ can be used for your particular system.

In most cases, you cannot re-use piping and cable from existing air-conditioning units for any new units you are having installed.
This is because different systems use different piping and have their own specific electrical requirements.

An outdoor unit does not have to be installed on a concrete slab or brackets.
There are many different options for installing your outdoor unit, which are best discussed with your Daikin Specialist Dealer during an on-site consultation to find the most suitable arrangement for your home.
Your Daikin Specialist Dealer will explain how the location of the outdoor unit affects noise levels, and will advise on the best placements to counter this and other important considerations. For example, having the outdoor unit installed directly on the ground may cause excessive vibration and/or noise without the use of a vibration eliminator.
